Paul Butler's Collage Party at the JMB Gallery, Hart House

Paul Butler's notorious Collage Party kicks off tomorrow at the JMB Gallery at Hart House, and runs until March 12th. On Sunday, March 9th, the event is open to the public as a sort of free-form art jam-session. Butler, a visual artist and proprietor of The Other Gallery, has hosted Collage Parties around the world, including White Columns (NYC), the Power Plant, the MoCA (LA), Cooper Gallery (Dundee, Scotland), Sparwasser (Berlin), PlugIn (Winnipeg), etc. etc. The 2006 Party at the MoCCA in Toronto was one of the best things I've seen at that space.

Participants this week include some of Toronto's finest (virtually all of whom have exhibited at Mercer Union in onewayshapeorform): Micah Lexier, Derek Sullivan, Roula Partheniou, Maura Doyle, Tyler Clark-Burke, Sandy Plotnikoff, Anitra Hamilton, Kristan Horton, Cory Lund, Zin Taylor, Kerri Reid and Katie Bethune-Leamen. Mercer staff Dave Dyment and Jon Sasaki will also be participating.

The line-up includes a large number of artists whose work could be called "conceptually-based" this time around, so it'll be interesting to see how the
experiment unfolds.

March 9-12
Public participation with artists in attendance, Sunday, March 9
Reception: Sunday, March 9, 1 to 4 pm,
Gallery Hours: 11 to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 1 to 4 pm
