Morrissey, who recently turned down an offer of $75 million to reunite with Johnny Marr as the Smiths, is reportedly now the subject of a “We Will Rock You”-style Broadway musical. The show will be based on Morrissey’s songs and was conceived by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, who both starred in “Reno 911” (which had a few rare moments of brilliance). The show takes it’s title, “I’ve Changed My Plea To Guilty”, from a b-side to Morrissey’s 1991 single “My Love Life”, which was later compiled on “My Burglary Years.” Morrissey has stated in interviews that he considers it one the best songs he has written.
Lennon tells New York Metro that the musical will be aimed at a very diehard set of fans.
