Influential post-punk/art-funk sister act ESG are calling it quits after nearly thirty years together. Singer Renee Scroggins reports that their final show will be later this month at the, um, Estrojam festival (which also features Bettye LaVette and Kristin Hersh). She says the band is tired and that she will now focus her efforts on producing other acts. In May of this year drummer Valerie Scroggins was indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury on charges of bilking the worker's payment program more than $13,000. She argues that she suffered a shoulder injury last September on her day job as a bus driver, but Metro Transit Authority investigators report filming her playing drums for over an hour, in contradiction to her original injury claim. The band have not noted this fact when announcing their retirement, but it seems unlikely that they are unrelated.
